About the Creator
My Name is Kalena Nielsen and I am the creator of Kiteoween. My love for the sport of kiteboarding extends far beyond riding alone. I created this event in the spring of 2010 to give back to the kite community for the life changing awesomeness kiteboarding has given me.
Costumes have been a big part of creative expression for me since a very young age. Through out my life as a fashion and film industry professional, costumes continued to evolve for me when I began Kiteboarding in 2006. I wanted to create an event that encouraged people to celebrate our sport and get creative through dressing up in costumes.
Making a day where creativity, windsport athletics and beach camaraderie are enjoyed by everyone could be awesome. Setting this project in the world renowned Howe Sound would make it simply stunning. Combining kiteboarding and costumes into a positive, dynamic, one of a kind event has been everything I envisioned, and more.
**To honour the 10th Anniversary of my event I decided to do something very different. My sister event Kite Clash has always been supportive of my event, but this year was scheduled on the last day of August making that day unavailable for me to host the 10th anniversary of Kiteoween. So...
I am bringing Kiteoween to Baja this year!! And will host it on the actual day of Halloween itself!! October 31st, at Baja Joe's in La Ventana, Mexico!! I know right ?!!
I feel blessed to be a part of the Global Kite Community and the continued efforts to enhance and advance the many factions of kiteboarding throughout North America. Squamish and La Ventana are both on North Americas top kite beach locations list because of their amazing conditions and communities. They are both strong roll models for the windustry* and serve as an example of excellence for other kite destinations around the world.
Sharing my kite stoke through Kiteoween, my work as a Kite repair technician, my creations as a recycled kite clothing designer and work as a kiteboarding instructor has been inspiring, positive, rewarding and above all FUN!
Life’s a gift, Kite!
